Twill Media Christmas redesign

Everyone says it, but I truly can’t believe Christmas day is almost upon us!

Despite the uncertain times we live in, I always look forward to the Christmas break. It’s a time to enjoy being with friends and family, time together away from the treadmill of daily life.

A recent target I set myself was to rework the Twill Media website in time for the New Year. I really like the old version, but felt it could be further refined, given a more personalised look and feel. It’s difficult when you’re in the New Media business to know how best to pitch your company in terms of its aesthetic. Too plain, safe and ‘corporate’ and you run the risk of seemingly lacking creative appeal; too quirky and ‘different’ and you may not appeal to wide enough a potential client base (albeit that some may truly love your work).

Twill Media - new site

In redesigning the Twill site, I’ve sought to maintain a firm foot in both camps. The site’s header is quirky but accessible, hopefully portraying a sense of creative fun, character and visual appeal. To counterbalance this, the navigation is clear, simple and intuitive. All the site’s main sections feature on the same page, with implementation of a JavaScript driven ‘smooth scroll’ feature allowing movement from one to another. It works really well and feedback’s been positive so far.

The three main portfolios (web, print and photography) are clearly laid out, with the opportunity to click and view larger versions of graphics etc. Links to all pages are always close at hand and the user is made aware of where in the site they are at any time. This, aside of annoying moving elements, is the thing that most often frustrates me when I’m surfing others’ sites — I get lost and can’t find the information I want.

The new site’s here — I’d be interested to know what you think!
