Chase Jarvis’ The Best Camera iPhone App
As part of some development work yesterday, I had to install an in-site RSS feed reader for a client. I picked some random feeds to trial and accidentally happened upon a new iPhone App called ‘The Best Camera‘ by Chase Jarvis.

The Best Camera – main edit screen
The logic behind The Best Camera stems from a simple issue: if you use your iPhone to take photos on-the-fly, simple edit and then post directly to social networking sites, there’s often a requirement for 3-4 separate apps. This makes the process long-winded, removing some of the fun and spontaneity. In response, Chase Jarvis has sought to develop an all-in-one solution—an app that allows you to shoot a photo, inline edit using custom filter stacks and then post instantly to Facebook, Twitter, thebestcamera.com, the iPhone’s main photo roll and also email. The idea is certainly very neat.
At £1.79 I bought the app to trial on my iPhone 3G. I haven’t yet taken the step of ugrading to the 3GS, even though I’m now beyond the scope of my contract. I am toying with the prospect as the camera’s so much better on the 3GS, but Apple are due to release their next phone in Summer 2010, so I may hold on. Getting back, The Best Camera app works well and functionality is *very* snappy. The results I’ve had today have been impressive, but…
No ability to add accompanying text to photo uploads?
This is what I thought at first, but I was wrong. Upon looking closer, when you’re ready to share you can click a small arrow next to the social application and enter text to accompany the photo. A nice (and very necessary) touch.
Overall, a snappy and well conceived app. I’ve often bought past apps for their novelty value, but this is one I think I’ll use again and again.
Looking forward to seeing what’s added in future updates.
